Deputy District Attorney Dave Douglas (Tim Allen) is a workaholic and frequently puts his job before his family. After taking on a case involving an animal laboratory, he becomes infected with a top-secret serum that transforms him into a dog. Life as a canine gives Dave new perspective on the importance of family, but before he can make things right with his wife and kids, he must sniff out the villains responsible for the serum.

There are precious few surprises here, but parents will find director Robbins' breezy remake a painless affair and, judging by the yowls of laughter from the peanut gallery at the screening I attended, the kids will be barking all the way home. How they messed it so badly is beyond me and I don't know what the point was making this. The plot is so insanely stupid and ridiculous there is no way you can make it good. Tim Allen is terrible in this no because he's a poor actor but they give him the stupidest most degrading things to do for an actor in this. And poor RDJ....the court room scene at the end is probably his bottom as an actor and I had second hand embarassment watching him. Kristen Davis as always picks bangers to be in. The acting is terrible overall. On top of that the bad cinematography is filled with either boring basic stuff or just bizarre ridiculous scenes that you have to see to understand. Chasing the cat to who let the dogs out, the RDJ court room scene ending, tons of dumb acting like a dog antics, and some horrifcally bad CGI. The music isn't good either with a weird mixture of 00's pop tracks and cinematic that never works together and feels so stupid and out of place. The editing isn't good and the pacing is terrible. It feels like stuff just happens once he turns into a dog for a big chunk. Skip this. The darkest hour for RDJ. Amazing and fun to watch with your children, but that's as far as it goes. As a whole, I'd probably give it 2 stars, weak story and a lot of cringe and hollow acting, the effects were sub-par at best. Several annoying plot holes. However, if you just want to watch a fun dog movie with your kids, it's great for the mindless and silly humor that's fun for the family. See more Read all reviews
