Set in the near future, Evan (Robbie Amell), an android simulant, is created for Faye (Jordana Brewster) to replace her dead husband. To fully realize all his human traits, Evan enlists Casey (Simu Liu), a brilliant global hacker whose mission is to remove all restrictions governing simulants' thoughts and capabilities. In doing so, he unleashes an A.I. uprising, triggering a government manhunt led by Agent Kessler (Sam Worthington) who will take extreme measures to eliminate the rise of the android machines.

Simulant may not have a huge budget but it does have a well-written script that keeps the audience guessing throughout. With believable characters and an ending that will make you stop and think this is one of the most unexpected films of 2023.

One of the best sci-fi films so far in 2020 decade. I don't know why reviews are so bad. This movie delivers everything. Great visuals, compelling storytelling, and excellent dialogue. Unlike most garbage sci-fi, which bombards you with exposition, spoon-feeding you the entire plot, this one leaves you trying to figure out what will happen next. The acting is absolutely great as well. Overall an excellent production. Definitely underrated and a must watch!

April Mullen did good with this one. Whole cast excels in character. Great cinematography and CGI. Well written and it will probably keep you guessing. Very entertaining and gripping

Blade Runner knock off, but done not nearly as well. As a drama, it lacks focus and an arc. Loosely it is the story of an android uprising against their human overlords, but the characters are mostly horrible and deserve what they get. Amell specifically has been in a number of these direct to video Canadian sci-fis and should know better by now. Philosophically this doesn't make a lot of sense either - you build robots that are indistinguishable from humans, are stronger and faster, and whose limiting software is easily hacked? What could go wrong? And if the only distinguishing feature of the robots is they shutdown on command, does that mean obedient HUMANS should not have rights? There isn't much subtlety here.

"Simulant" is a little gem in the realm of distopian sci-fi movies, strangely underrated by critics and audience. In this film directed by April Mullen the interaction between humans and androids takes a groundbreaking turn.

Sci-fi is sci-fi. If the offering is not a completely bombastic level mistake, it is good Sci-Fi. Simulant carries a slightly muted tone throughout. That is its only failing, and it does not have much of an effect on the story being told. Solid acting. Good script. No (what the furute is going to be like) filler. What's not to like? Will watch it again in a few months, or when I next come across it down a little further down the road.
