Orin D @RT64117979 Jul 23 "Straight Time" is a Tour de Force for Hoffman & the supporting cast, in particular the female protagonist. Hoffman plays a man who can't make it on the "outside"& who wants to go back to the can, despite the fact that he has so much going for him: a good woman who loves him and wants to be w/ him. His performance makes me want to see him make it on the outside to be able to go w/ his woman to make a new life for them both w/ kids, pets etc. It is painful to see his resignation to a life of crime & going back to prison. A montage of mugshots from when he was a kid shows us prison is the life he knows, where he is most comfortable. I've spent time in prison, know his feeling but can't share it. I've made myself a new life w/ writing, publishing my poetry, running a cafe for 22 years & w/my wife an art center that hosts jazz concerts, poetry readings, rock jams, & publishes an art journal & poetry books by local authors. This is a great film--pass it along to others. Orin Domenico See more Blu B @RT43513976 Oct 29 You know a film with both Harry Dean Stanton & Emmet Walsh is going to be good. Solid soundtrack but I wish it was more catchy on its own. Everything else though man is masterful. We watch Max build a life, find purpose, and have hope for him only to watch old habits return and whether it's his fault or not it's tragic and fasinating to watch hsi complete destruction in real time. You know it's not going to end well but you can't look away and it just makes it all the more tragic. Everyone should give this a try once. Hoffman is masteful here. As someone who gets carried away gambling at times, seeing Hoffman’s character having that “it’s never enough” mindset is just so gut wrenching for me to watch, but in the best way possible. This movie felt so real. They acted as nervous and scared and greedy as any normal thief would, which makes the characters so relatable. What an awesome movie!!!!
