The idea of a sinister children’s rhyme coming to life is creepy on its own, and the movie shows flashes of what could have been an effective supernatural horror story. Unfortunately, the execution is uneven. The film struggles to commit to a clear tone, bouncing between eerie folklore, psychological horror, and standard creature scares without fully embracing any of them. Direction feels uncertain, and tension often fades just when it should peak. The cast isn’t the issue; the actors do their best with the material, and there’s potential in the characters that never gets explored. Ultimately, The Crooked Man isn’t terrible, but it’s disappointing. It’s a movie filled with "almost" moments—almost scary, almost engaging, almost memorable—but it never becomes the chilling horror experience it should have been. This is one of the worst horror movies (in my opinion). I also wanna say that this is not a spin-off from the conjuring universe, this is just a rip-off. See more 03/24/2019 Wow, this is awful. The setup premise that anyone remembers or cares about a child murder 10 years later, enough to even remotely dislike or recognize the protagonist is even more far fetched than the crooked man. I am not sure what is more unbelievable the facts of a group of kids all still living in the same town, let alone remembering each other or that this monster waited till this point to keep killing people.
