Two years after the disastrous events in Las Vegas, it is now Stu's (Ed Helms) turn to walk down the aisle. Since his bride is from Thailand, Stu decides to hold the wedding there. Desperately hoping to avoid the mayhem of Doug's (Justin Bartha) bachelor party, Stu chooses what he thinks will be a safe option: an alcohol-free, pre-wedding brunch. But this being Thailand, and with Phil (Bradley Cooper) and Alan (Zach Galifianakis) again in attendance, anything can happen.

If you want to see everything you saw in Hangover, only transplanted to Bangkok, with a drug-peddling simian and a missing human finger, then Hangover 2 is the movie for you.

If you want more laughs than you shouldn’t miss The Hangover Part II, just don’t expect anything remarkably different this time around… in fact to be safe just check your brain in at the Candy Bar on your way in.

Seeing Bradley Cooper and the gang roam Bangkok is a sheer blast! Director Todd Phillips’ sex comedy The Hangover Part II (2011) is honestly more fast paced and funnier to me than the awesome original comedy classic The Hangover (2009). Bradley Cooper is cool, hilarious, and clever as the alcoholic partier and schoolteacher Phil Wenneck. That adorable monkey Crystal the Monkey really seemed to love hanging off Cooper’s neck and shoulders as The Drug-Dealing Monkey. Cooper effortlessly nails the humor and gravitas to lead another Hangover movie. Ed Helms is so pathetic and funny as the normal guy and repressed dentist Dr. Stu Price, who is hilariously going to marry Jaime Chung in Thailand. Jamie Chung is impossibly drop dead gorgeous and charming. Zach Galifianakis continues to be insanely funny as the actually insane Alan Garner, who wants to be a part of The Wolfpack so badly. Ken Jeong kind of steals this entire film as the Chinese drug lord Mr. Leslie Chow.

The Hangover Part II is essentially the first movie on repeat, minus the originality and charm. It leans hard into slapstick humor with little effort to expand the story or characters in any meaningful way. Without the novelty of Vegas, the film feels like a calculated regurgitation designed to cash in on the success of the original. It might still land for a younger crowd in that chaotic phase of life, but for anyone looking for wit, growth, or even escalation, it comes up empty. Same beats, louder jokes — far less impact.
