Raised by a family of wolves since birth, Mowgli (Neel Sethi) must leave the only home he's ever known when the fearsome tiger Shere Khan (Idris Elba) unleashes his mighty roar. Guided by a no-nonsense panther (Ben Kingsley) and a free-spirited bear (Bill Murray), the young boy meets an array of jungle animals, including a slithery python and a smooth-talking ape. One of the rare times when a live action movie improves upon the movie it is remaking. But this movie certainly did that, with beautiful CGI, wonderful writing, and a magical Disney feeling elevates this wonderful movie to the best live action adaptation Disney has made, but there is one thing that brings it down for me. I wish that we could have gotten some more of the song we loved in the original. I’m not talking like the Elephant March song but like the Vultures or Trust in Me. Even just a little bit of the song would have satisfied me. The thing is they also recorded a Trust in Me for the soundtrack, but didn’t even put it in the movie! Despite my one criticism I definitely loved this movie and think that it is definitely worth a watch.

It's already been 10 years since the release of this film and Disney since then has obviously made a number of other remakes, but The Jungle Book still stands as far and away the best one that they've produced up to this point. What I really enjoyed about it, is that it wasn't just a virtual scene-by-scene copy of the original film. By borrowing elements from both the novel and the 1967 movie, they made something that felt fresh and different. And they did an absolute golden job of casting! Bill Murray and Ben Kingsley in particular really stood out for me. They were the perfect choices for Baloo and Bagheera. And it goes without saying that the movie really earned the Oscar for Best Visual Effects. Unlike the 2019 Lion King, you can actually make out the emotions from the facial expressions of the animals! All in all, if you love the original animated Jungle Book, you'll thoroughly enjoy this one. Can't say that for most of the other remakes.
