Alas, The Nun is more chaotic than most of the many, many films set in The Conjuring universe. To compare it to a ghost train would be to understate the narrative cohesion that habitually governs those seaside entertainments.

The Nun is a good horror movie. There isn’t anything truly exceptional about The Nun, but it executes the tropes of a haunting/demon story better than most. Like The Conjuring, it is a light, but very effective R-rated feature.

The Origin story of the Nun had so much potential and yet delivered a weak delivery in many areas. While fans of the franchise will enjoy the watch it fails to bring the level of intense thrill past movies brought. In my personal opinion this is why you should not change movie directors.

Exactly what was advertised, take it as it is. The dark atmosphere and 1950s setting add to the appeal. The storyline is a little weak, but deleted scenes gave the back story some bulk, had they not been cut, the film would've worked a little better. It did have one of the biggest jump scares in the franchise and had a good setup for the sequel. Flawed, fun, and full of great set pieces and performances. Id say 4/5.

If you like the subgenre of horror that is demonic possession then go for it. The location is great (Romanian castles) and there are some genuinely terrifying parts. I prefer chthonic entities to Christian malevolent forces in the movies I watch but it was fun. Allow for a little lameness, I just rolled my eyes and enjoyed none the less. I'm a sucker for derelict castles so there's my bias
