Although it's not "scary", it's definitely unsettling, and leaves you with more questions than answers. Absolutely zero jump scares, its not that type of film. Ana Taylor Joy, is excellent, but the rest of the cast is nothing beyond "fine". Watch with subtitles!!! The thick English accent can be tough to understand at times. See more Declan D @filmbuffkid Jul 21 Like I have no words for this movie, even though I’m a catholic, I think this movie is a phenomenal piece of historical fiction. Like everything is perfect, the lines, the cinematography, the sound editing, the acting are phenomenal. Even though I really love this movie, I don’t agree with the movie’s teachings. 1. It is disturbing and disrespectful to the teachings of Jesus Christ and 2. It shows rituals and I find it uncomfortable. Besides that, I love horror movies like these because it doesn’t really focus on the villain, but it focuses on the family being psychologically torn apart from the horrific events that the family has been through. Think of the shining as an example, because of the family being trapped in a place where ghosts are psychologically messing up their brains, and with them being in the same place one of them is gonna break eventually.
