Classic Denzel, would give it 5 stars except for the continuing inconsistencies of wrecking his Monte Carlo three times and then it keeps appearing nearly unharmed in further scenes. A career defining performance for Denzel and Ethan Hawke.

Wow… this movie was good. Like, REALLY good. I had high expectations going in, and it absolutely blew them away. I love the way Hoyt slowly realizes who Alonso really is over the course of the runtime. The way this movie builds tension is a masterclass in storytelling. Of course, Denzel Washington’s performance is phenomenal—by far the best part. It’s no wonder he took home an Oscar for this role. But Ethan Hawke is great here too. The dynamic between their two characters is so compelling. I also thought the way the film showcases corruption is incredibly sophisticated and effective. The action scenes are gritty and hard-hitting, and they never feel like they’re there just so the movie can have action. They feel vital to the story and to how the characters evolve. I know some people didn’t like the ending, but man, I found it so satisfying. The way everything comes crashing down for him, capped off with the "King Kong" speech, was the cherry on top. Absolutely recommend.
