Brad is worth the ticket price alone and others turned in creditable performances, particularly Eric Bana as an upright family man who just happens to be the prince of a warlike city-state, and Sean Bean as Odysseus the Ironic.

In terms of historical accuracy, Troy is probably on par with Van Helsing. But for balancing intimate stories with spectacular battles in an old-school-sized epic, it's closer to Gladiator.

... it’s hard to take the cataclysmic events of this ancient war seriously, as it is entirely predicated on an unconvincing romantic gesture of a prince with the impulse control of a spoiled brat and the political consideration of a cat in heat.

An epic movie in the style of Cecil B De Mile, but does it hold up to the test of time? Not really. Cheesy dialog, a terrible musical score, self conscious acting and silly accents abound. I’m not even going to mention the inaccuracy of the telling, the deletion of almost every important female character and the compression of ten years of into, at best, a couple of weeks. It’s a fun enough watch, but it’s not the masterpiece that current haters of Nolan’s The Odyssey are trying to reframe it as.

Not as bad or shallow as people say. I actually appreciated the emotionality from Pitt's character a lot. A highly stylized period piece that I think holds up well.

A bit long but the fact that Bana and Pitt did their own fighting, is impressive, as well as the acting and casting. It shoves the gods to the side for the most part which is unfortunately, but has enough punch in the other scenes to make up for it.
