Brad is worth the ticket price alone and others turned in creditable performances, particularly Eric Bana as an upright family man who just happens to be the prince of a warlike city-state, and Sean Bean as Odysseus the Ironic.

In terms of historical accuracy, Troy is probably on par with Van Helsing. But for balancing intimate stories with spectacular battles in an old-school-sized epic, it's closer to Gladiator.

... it’s hard to take the cataclysmic events of this ancient war seriously, as it is entirely predicated on an unconvincing romantic gesture of a prince with the impulse control of a spoiled brat and the political consideration of a cat in heat.

If you don't know the history - or don't care - Troy it is a succession of earnest speechmaking interspersed with choreographed battle scenes big and small. When it is all done, it is all immediately forgettable Hollywood entertainment.

Don't go into this movie expecting the Illiad. This movie is extremely epic and fun, centering around Achilles and Hector specifically. This works to the movie's advantage until the two finally collide. The movie ends for me after Priam's conversation with Achillies. After that the movie lacks it's heart. Sean Bean is also phenomenal as Odysseus but the do absolutely nothing with him. Like I said though, do not expect Homer's grand epic.

WE NEED MORE EPIC MOVIES. This was such an epic movie. The cast and scale of this are so great. It excites me for Nolan's The Odyssey. And while this movie is not a true story, I love getting a sense of what battle was like in ancient Greek times. I would love to see more movies from way back in history telling about battles and history in general. This particular story from Homer has flaws, but I enjoyed it. I have to recommend and wish I could have seen it in theatres.

A rebellious Achilles fights for king Agamemnon, who he doesn't wish to serve. When Helen, the wife of the Spartan king, runs away with a prince of Troy, Agamemnon declares a fight to spark the Trojan War. Brad Pitt is a monster in this with several epic battles.
