chris m @chriss17eu Sep 23 redford and streisand, a duo you didn’t know you needed. it didn't start as my favorite, but it ends up being a truly great movie. barbra streisand proves here that she is not only an iconic voice, but also an actress with a screen presence that very few achieve. she conveys intensity, vulnerability, and passion in every scene. robert redford, as always, stands out with a measured, magnetic, and absolutely convincing performance. the story is moving and captivating, one that gradually draws you in. the dialogues are so well written that you feel part of the relationship, experiencing each argument, every intimate moment, every disagreement. it is also appreciated that the movie gives politics the necessary space: it is not just a backdrop, but a key element highlighting the protagonists’ ideological contradictions and shaping their lives. regarding narrative development, it is among the most solid i have ever witnessed. nothing is excessive, nothing is missing; each scene contributes something, each transition feels organic and necessary. the soundtrack, precise and enchanting, accompanies subtly and enhances the emotional impact without overwhelming. a finale that leaves you wanting to keep following these characters even though the story has ended. 'the way we were' is, ultimately, a human and moving tale, combining the intimate and the political in a work of enormous sensitivity. spanish: redford y streisand, un conjunto que no sabías que necesitabas. no empezó siendo mi favorita, pero acaba convirtiéndose en una grandísima película. barbra streisand demuestra aquí que no solo es una voz icónica, sino también una actriz con una fuerza en pantalla que muy pocos logran. transmite intensidad, fragilidad y pasión en cada escena. robert redford, como siempre, sobresale con una interpretación medida, magnética y absolutamente convincente. la historia es emocionante y cautivadora, de esas que te atrapan poco a poco. los diálogos están tan bien construidos que uno siente que forma parte de la relación, viviendo de cerca cada discusión, cada momento íntimo, cada desencuentro. se agradece, además, que la película dé a la política el espacio necesario: no es un simple telón de fondo, sino un elemento clave que subraya las contradicciones ideológicas de los protagonistas y marca el rumbo de sus vidas. en cuanto al desarrollo narrativo, es de los más sólidos que he podido presenciar. nada sobra, nada falta; cada escena aporta algo, cada transición se siente orgánica y necesaria. la banda sonora, precisa y encantadora, acompaña con sutileza y realza la emotividad sin saturar. un final que deja con ganas de seguir acompañando a esos personajes aunque la historia haya llegado a su fin. 'tal como éramos' es, en definitiva, un relato humano y conmovedor, que une lo íntimo y lo político en una obra de enorme sensibilidad. Long lasting. The story never gets old - even if the movie is. See more Rob G @Googanaba 04/22/2025 Not bad. Good little tear jerker of a movie. Saw it again for the first time since the 70s. Here are my pros/cons having just finished it. The good: performances are great. The theme song is very catchy. Streisand, in particular, plays here role as the annoying activist well. I just wanted to shake her and tell her to stop the entire time! The bad: The leads had no chemistry...I just don't believe their romance. Redford, at almost 40 years old, in no way passes for a college student for the first 30 minutes of the movie...are you kidding me? The ending kills me: how could any father just walk away from their kid and want no participation in her life? Maybe I'll watch it again in another 50 years :). See more Read all reviews
