Movie star Roxy Carmichael is abandoning the bright lights of Hollywood, Calif. And returning to her small Ohio hometown -- at least long enough to dedicate a city building. And now the whole town of Clyde is bracing for Carmichael's return, most of all her now-married old flame Denton Webb and troubled teen Dinky Bossetti. An orphan with few friends, Dinky is convinced that Carmichael is her birth mother, and that the actress will reclaim her when she returns.

I loved this movie when I was a weird outcast teen and loved it again when watching as a 40+yr old ‘grown up’. I found it so relatable then as well as now. Winona is really great in this, sensitive and believable. The supporting characters are a bit all over the place and could be whittled down in number while expanding the characters but hey - the main storyline is well acted. Thoroughly recommend.

Personally, I enjoyed this movie as someone who loves the feeling of nostalgic films and enjoys weird and different plots and characters. I loved Winona Ryder’s character Dinky, she’s an edgy outcast who makes no effort to conform to society, I found her funny and surprisingly relatable. I do think this movie is lacking a lot of character development and leaves you feeling like something more is missing. I wish Dinky’s adoptive mother learned to accept her as she is, and we would get to see Denton reunite with his family and actually become a redeemable character. All in all this movie was more enjoyable than 99% of recent films so definitely worth a watch if you go into it just expecting a quirky, different movie.

not that exciting of a film sadly, i love winona and only watched it for her but i didn't like this much, was pretty dull. it's one of those films ill watch once every 6 years because i forgot what happens.
