Petros T @PetrosTserpelis 10/27/2017 Such a pretentious attempt at poetic cinema. For some reason the dialogues come in pathetic, childish rhymes. The script is a feeble collection of generic characters and themes and doesn't really focus on anything worthy. The cinematography leaves a lot to be desired, the dialogues are stilted and the love story has zero impact. Despite that, Sam Neill is pretty good and the few scenes he has are the only fine moments of the film, especially his monologue and impromptu dancing to the blues. See more 04/15/2015 Potter shows herself to be a very limited visual stylist. She pulls out every trick from the hack director handbook, from canted angles to Peter Jackson-esque motion blur to overly intrusive foreground texture (get that fucking glass out of the way!) and it is endlessly irritating. I could probably forgive all this (and I do to an extent) if the writing was amazing, but the gender dynamic of the central love triangle is pretty clichéd, and some of the rhymes clang horribly. It does work at times in spite of itself, but not brilliantly. See more 07/03/2012 I wasn't enjoying this from the start. I didn't enjoy the cleaner doing spats of narration, and the ease in which the main character gave herself to the Lebanese chef. But it was only 30 minutes into the movie when i realized that much of the script was poetry, and the characters were ryming. I then felt i might as well be watching a musical, which i don't like to do, so i switched it off. I don't think it would have got any better See more 03/10/2012 I love the idea but can't really dig the execution: way too stagey (even the camera tricks feel like an attempt to hide the staginess) and the veer into politics doesn't fit with the whole thing.
