A LEGO Brickumentary (2014) 55% 1/4 EDIT “Viewers hoping for an in-depth look at the company will be disappointed, as the movie does little to contradict the now-infamous catchphrase that when it comes to LEGO, "everything is awesome."” – Movie Mezzanine Jul 30, 2015 Full Review Unexpected (2015) 64% 2/4 EDIT “Unexpected has its heart in the right place, but it ultimately can't decide what it wants to be.” – Movie Mezzanine Jul 27, 2015 Full Review Eastern Boys (2013) 89% 3.5/4 EDIT “It's a fairly straightforward home invasion set-up, but what makes writer-director Robin Campillo's sophomore feature so intriguing is how it carefully subverts expectations.” – Movie Mezzanine Mar 3, 2015 Full Review The Wedding Ringer (2015) 29% 2.5/4 EDIT “The rest of the film is a mess of mixed messages, perpetuating homophobia and sexism at the same time it critiques them.” – Movie Mezzanine Jan 23, 2015 Full Review Match (2014) 76% 2.5/4 EDIT “Match isn't perfect, but there are far worse things to reflect on.” – Movie Mezzanine Jan 15, 2015 Full Review Little Accidents (2014) 56% 3/4 EDIT “...the result is an intriguing web of secrets, even if she doesn't quite stick the landing.” – Movie Mezzanine Jan 15, 2015 Full Review When the Game Stands Tall (2014) 21% C EDIT “Ultimately, though, it's as sappy and superficial as its title-it feels good on the surface, but it doesn't mean much at all.” – Movie Mezzanine Aug 27, 2014 Full Review The Purge: Anarchy (2014) 58% A- EDIT “The Purge: Anarchy isn't just the best mainstream film of the summer; it cements the series' status as one of the most timely and unfortunately necessary cultural satires of the past few years.” – Movie Mezzanine Jul 22, 2014 Full Review Think Like a Man Too (2014) 23% C- EDIT “Think Like A Man Too is too bright and artificial to feel risqu.” – Movie Mezzanine Jun 20, 2014 Full Review The Lone Ranger (2013) 31% D EDIT “If The Lone Ranger was a character in The Lone Ranger, it'd be the villain.” – Movie Mezzanine Feb 1, 2014 Full Review Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014) 40% B EDIT “The Marked Ones doesn't just call back to previous Paranormal Activity films, it feels like a journey through the evolution of the subgenre as a whole.” – Movie Mezzanine Feb 1, 2014 Full Review In Bloom (2013) 90% B+ EDIT “In Bloom is a beautiful but cynical look at adolescence that argues coming-of-age brings new hardships along with it.” – Movie Mezzanine Feb 1, 2014 Full Review Apocalypse Now (1979) 91% A+ EDIT “The word "apocalypse" derives from the Greek for "revelation," so in effect the title of Coppola's masterpiece is a call for us to wake up and stop lying to ourselves about who we are and what we did and what we still have the power to do.” – Movie Mezzanine Feb 1, 2014 Full Review Somewhere Slow (2013) 56% B EDIT “There are no broad romantic comedy antics or loud arguments to be found here, just a simply told portrait of lost souls that speaks volumes through quiet interaction.” – Movie Mezzanine Jan 31, 2014 Full Review Carrie (2013) 51% B+ EDIT “Repeats the past with less thrilling but more profound results.” – Movie Mezzanine Jan 31, 2014 Full Review The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) 90% C EDIT “There's a depressing irony to the fact that The Hunger Games, a book series about the media's ability to placate the masses with superficial distractions, is now a mainstream film franchise that has spawned its own cult of celebrity.” – Movie Mezzanine Jan 31, 2014 Full Review 47 Ronin (2013) 16% C+ EDIT “Rinsch's vision of Japan is brimming with imagination, and I found myself wishing I could spend more time there.
