Azrael (2024) 71% 3.5 EDIT “Azrael is an attempt to strip down horror to its very bones where the very basics of the genre wind up being examined. ” – Dread Central Mar 22, 2024 Full Review Arcadian (2024) 78% 4.0 EDIT “When Arcadian isn’t focused purely on the visceral battle between us and them, it’s main undercurrent deals with the responsibility of prepping the next generation for self-reliance.” – Dread Central Mar 22, 2024 Full Review Civil War (2024) 81% 4.5 EDIT “ Shockingly, Alex Garland’s polarizing new film offers up a surprising level of catharsis hidden inside a riveting, action heavy war movie.” – Dread Central Mar 22, 2024 Full Review It's What's Inside (2024) 80% 3.5 EDIT “For those willing to scroll past the TikTok and Instagram inspired deluge of the first act, the final reveal is absolutely worth waiting for.” – Dread Central Mar 22, 2024 Full Review Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024) 42% 2.8 EDIT “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire returns the franchise back to its rightful Manhattan home. The result is a moderately fun action adventure that weaponizes nostalgia.” – Dread Central Mar 22, 2024 Full Review Quicksand (2023) 33% EDIT “In the latest horror outing to remind you to always pack a snorkel, Quicksand gives us all one more reason never to go outdoors. ” – Dread Central Feb 17, 2024 Full Review Beau Is Afraid (2023) 67% EDIT “Our repressed fears and failure to confront our own demons will eventually find a way to reveal themselves. When they do, it can take the form of something positively absurd or darkly horrific.” – Dread Central Feb 17, 2024 Full Review The Fire that Took Her (2022) 100% EDIT “It would be a disservice to Judy and her family to warn viewers about just how graphic some scenes are in The Fire That Took Her. That’s the point. Facing that pain is just one small way that we, the audience, can pay our respects.” – Dread Central Feb 17, 2024 Full Review Strays (1991) EDIT “What could have been a second-rate made-for-TV movie has definitely made an impression over the years. Strays gets a lot out of its generic PG rating and makes ailurophobia (or the fear of cats) seem a lot less irrational. ” – Dread Central Feb 17, 2024 Full Review The Last Video Store (2023) 75% EDIT “If you unabashedly love bad B-movies, The Last Video Store pays respect to the VHS obsessives with a mostly effective story about what happens when the drive-in characters decide to fight back.” – Dread Central Feb 17, 2024 Full Review The Toxic Avenger (2023) 87% EDIT “The dedication Dinklage brings a certain legitimacy to The Toxic Avenger which automatically makes it seem even more ridiculous.” – Dread Central Feb 17, 2024 Full Review We Are Zombies (2023) 100% EDIT “Diving into a world that has already been living with zombies for years, We Are Zombies features plenty of blood-squirting gore that also features a subtle running commentary about corporate greed. ” – Dread Central Feb 17, 2024 Full Review Tiger Stripes (2023) 97% EDIT “Rough around the edges at times, Tiger Stripes is still an effective interpretation of the werewolf myth that combines Southeast Asian folklore with the same themes found in the cult teen horror classic Ginger Snaps.” – Dread Central Feb 17, 2024 Full Review There's Something in the Barn (2023) 81% EDIT “Depending on your particular penchant for Yuletide horror, Magnus Martens’ There’s Something in the Barn is a serviceable blend of horror and comedy that doesn’t do any favors for the elf community at large. ” – Dread Central Feb 17, 2024 Full Review Strange Darling (2023) 96% EDIT “From the opening minutes, JT Mollner’s Strange Darling rockets into a full-blown chase movie that recalls the raw grit of 1970s crime movies and the pulp hyperreality of 1990s indie cinema.” – Dread Central Feb 17, 2024 Full Review Spooktacular! (2023) 100% EDIT “Personally, I had never heard of Spooky World before. Ringleader and founder David Bertolino is profiled in Quinn Monahan’s Halloween-centric documentary Spooktacular! chronicling the rise and fall of America’s first haunted theme park.” – Dread Central Feb 17, 2024 Full Review The Sacrifice Game (2023) 90% EDIT “There’s a deeper subtext explored in The Sacrifice Game that never upends the sense of camp that this kind of setup needs to succeed.” – Dread Central Feb 17, 2024 Full Review Riddle Of Fire (2023) 79% EDIT “The slinky visuals and ’80s-inspired synth score make Riddle of Fire play like it’s a distant memory that’s being accessed again years later. There’s a sense of nostalgia without rehashing the movies most of us were raised on.” – Dread Central Feb 17, 2024 Full Review Crumb Catcher (2023) 87% EDIT “Produced by New York City genre giant Larry Fessenden, Crumb Catcher takes some of the more intriguing aspects of Richard Kelly’s The Box and turns up the heat until the tumultuous final act.” – Dread Central Feb 17, 2024 Full Review Infested (2023) 95% EDIT “For many, the creepy crawly premise for Sébastien Vaniček’s directorial debut Infested (aka Vermin) may be too much to stomach. Arachnophobes beware, this movie may be your worst nightmare come to life. ” – Dread Central Feb 17, 2024 Full Review Kim's Video (2023) 71% EDIT “If you think you know the story of what happened to the infamous movie collection housed at Kim’s Video on St. Mark Place in the East Village, think again.” – Dread Central Feb 17, 2024 Full Review Herd (2023) 85% 2.5 EDIT “If Herd was really about a horde of zombies, it would be going under a different title altogether. The outbreak is just an excuse to explore what happens when human beings are suddenly thrown into a pressure cooker.” – Dread Central Feb 17, 2024 Full Review Soul Mates (2023) 63% 2.5/5 EDIT “Soul Mates is just clever enough to be worthy of a double feature with one of Jigsaw’s deadly games or multiple episodes of Love is Blind.” – Dread Central Feb 17, 2024 Full Review Fog City (2023) 2.5 EDIT “A mostly underwhelming teen horror that chooses mayhem and massacres over mystery and atmosphere.” – Dread Central Feb 17, 2024 Full Review T.I.M. (2023) 43% 3.5 EDIT “A fun if slightly predictable thriller that updates the stalker boyfriend and transforms him into an overzealous, murderous android.” – Dread Central Feb 17, 2024 Full Review
