Frank Morrison (John Travolta) no longer lives with his ex-wife, Susan (Teri Polo), and 12-year-old son, Danny (Matt O'Leary). Susan and Danny now live with Rick Barnes (Vince Vaughn), Susan's new husband. Danny, who has a reputation for telling lies, has accused his stepfather of committing a murder. But Frank is the only one who believes him. Now the father Danny trusts must protect him from the stepfather he fears.

I was going through custody issues with my ex at the time. It hits home. Vince Vaughn plays a good bad guy too. Underrated thriller movie. The teen boy is being traumatized and terrorized by his new step father (Vince) and the biological dad (John) is the good guy, single dad who wants custody away from his ex wife and new abusive husband. The kid saw Vince Vaughn kill Steve Buschemi aka Ray, someone that knew dirt on Vince's character. Now Vince has to threaten the kid everyday so he doesn't tell anybody like the cops or court.
