See more 06/25/2020 Very strong documentary detailing the history of US slavery and how the institutions created to support it are still enmeshed in our country's systems, both political and economic. A good "systemic racism 101" movie to watch with others and discuss in groups. See more 10/17/2019 I just viewed the documentary with fellow retired teachers in Illinois. Since I taught US History 1850-1960, I was familiar with much of the material. The fact that Frances Causey is a descendant of the man who wrote white supremacy language into the Virginia constitution is refreshing for a southern woman of privilege to look back retrospectively at her family's history of slavery. It is very well done with pertinent images of vintage pictures, movie and audio clips, and prominent black professor lend credence to the film. Two thumbs up!!!
