Signing Tony Raymond (2025) Mark Jackson The film works best when it reminds us that college football is also about grateful scholarship kids and low-tier coaches who stick around for love of the game.

Mercy (2026) Mark Jackson "Mercy" chooses high-octane spectacle over an interesting and consistent opinion on the ethics of an AI legal system and its far-reaching impact on humanity.

Melania (2026) Michael Clark She’s attempting to reach those closer to the middle and on the fence, meaning a majority of the American people. It is an ingenuous "soft" marketing masterstroke.

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) Mark Jackson The ultimate question posed by LOTR is whether we choose to remain cell-phone enslaved Gollums or become Frodo and cast the One Ring of addictions and attachments into the fire.

H Is for Hawk (2025) Michael Clark This "darkest before dawn" portion of the story makes the redemptive third-act payoff all the more cathartic and rewarding. Helen’s long, often challenging journey, both with Mabel and her own psyche, has an inspirational and emotionally uplifting ending.

SHEEPDOG (2025) Mark Jackson Where "Sheepdog" completely succeeds is in addressing veteran support. Veterans still fail to get the support they need and deserve. Kudos to Grayhm for shining a spotlight on this shameful aspect of American culture.

A Private Life (2025) Mark Jackson French film aficionados and Foster fans may find the film fascinating due to France-in-the-fall feels and Foster’s fine French, but I found it far from fun.

The Rip (2026) Michael Clark How "The Rip" pans out in the end is a testament to the dedication of our nation’s law enforcement officers. These people aren’t in it for the money. What they actually make defending us is insulting and borders on the laughable.

Shuffle (2025) Michael Clark Companies relying on and thriving on the failure of human foibles and weaknesses are among the most despicable practices imaginable. Pretending to help people while aiding in their downfall is beyond loathsome.

Greenland 2: Migration (2026) Mark Jackson The film's a journey to discover life, that needed to have a life of its own in the first place.

2.5/5
Dead Man's Wire (2025) Mark Jackson "Dead Man's Wire" seems to be more concerned with creating a noir-ish 1970s pastiche than making any kind of substantial statement.

Megadoc (2025) Michael Clark [One] particular omission aside, Figgis gets everything right. Filmmaking is an artistic version of a sausage factory. The finished product looks great, but the process itself is messy.

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) Mark Jackson Necessarily darker and more violent than its predecessor, it may be too overwhelming for young children. For teens and adults, it's an overwhelmingly wonderful experience. "The Two Towers" is one of the greatest films of all time.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) Mark Jackson This story is the second most-read Western tale of spiritual enlightenment after Homer’s "The Odyssey." This is the hidden reason people keep returning to the well of orcs, elves, dwarves, hobbits, and black riders. It’s very, very deep. And prescient.

If I Had Legs I'd Kick You (2025) Mark Jackson The film intends to be a noble, unflinching look at the heroic load single mothers carry. The fact of the matter is that the woes inherent in single-motherhood are communism/feminism’s carefully camouflaged mine-fields finally and inevitably detonating.

The Housemaid (2025) Mark Jackson Made well, this kind of slick, commercial yarn has the potential for a deliciously lurid two hours, but "The Housemaid" can’t get scary enough to draw adult viewers into its web. Teens will most likely get a kick out of it, though.

Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025) Mark Jackson While it would be nice to have new intellectual property coming from James Cameron, the "Avatar" films are like the "Lord Of The Rings" trilogy—keep ‘em comin’.

2.5/5
The Testament of Ann Lee (2025) Mark Jackson It’s a gritty, religious drama featuring miscarriages, sexual assaults, torture, and adultery. And it’s a musical. That’s a tremendous amount of ground to cover, geographically, plot-wise, and tonally. Audiences will most likely either love it or hate it.

Not Without Hope (2025) Mark Jackson "Not Without Hope" is a respectful interpretation of real-life survival. Not for entertainment, it's a good parental opportunity to teach life lessons to teens.

Father Mother Sister Brother (2025) Michael Clark "Father" is a return to old form. It bears all the calling cards and offers nothing resembling traditional story closure. Make no mistake, he's an acquired taste. If you’re open to unorthodox storytelling, you’ll likely take to him and come back for more.

Marty Supreme (2025) Mark Jackson Timothée Chalamet's Marty is a cunning rascal juggling 15 balls simultaneously, and the pressure-cooker anxiety he generates will raise your blood pressure.

The Housemaid (2025) Michael Clark The screenplay sticks close to the plot of the book, and she makes sure not to get too far ahead of her skis. One huge whiplash twist is followed by a second in the final half, displaying the true motives of the married couple without straining credulity.

Dust Bunny (2025) Mark Jackson Film is a dangerous, potentially harmful medium. While 'Gremlins' inflicted violence on puppets, 'Dust Bunny' features violence that's strictly not for kids.

Jay Kelly (2025) Mark Jackson For a far more rewarding experience with the exact same premise (famous movie director puts his career before his two daughters) see "Sentimental Value" instead.

Adulthood (2025) Mark Jackson Though good for a chuckle, "Adulthood' should have ultimately gone with either full crazy or full misery—either commitment would have been more satisfying.

Eternity (2025) Mark Jackson The artifice of romantic-triangle comedy "Eternity" is that human souls can spend the afterlife however and with whomever we please, but certain rules apply.

Song Sung Blue (2025) Michael Clark Based on the 2008 doc of the same name by Greg Kohs, director Craig Brewer’s live action version is a serviceable adaptation. Sometimes inspired and rousing, more often the film drags. This overlong reworking barely hits its mark.

Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (2025) Michael Clark With "Wake Up Dead Man" Rian Johnson has done something very few filmmakers have ever achieved. He’s made three straight live-action franchise movies that have received de facto universal critical acclaim and overwhelming audience approval.

Fackham Hall (2025) Michael Clark Not every verbal or visual barb lands with its desired impact, but any miss will be easy to overlook, as a winner is sure to follow. If for no other reason, the movie succeeds on sheer volumes of humor.

Sisu: Road to Revenge (2025) Michael Clark These two movies aren’t for everyone. They are extremely violent, but no more so than the most R-rated action flicks. Here’s a good qualifier: Did you think "Saving Private Ryan" was too graphic? If so, don’t see "Revenge," it’s not for you.

Hamnet (2025) Michael Clark It is the work of a true visionary that verges on perfection. The choice to distill and condense the source material was a masterstroke. In lesser hands, it would take three-plus hours to achieve what these filmmakers did in two-thirds of the time.

King Ivory (2024) Mark Jackson Carrying the same reality-based gravitas as "Sicario" and "Training Day," it’s a wonder "King Ivory" is not a bigger movie.

Train Dreams (2025) Michael Clark For Edgerton, the role of Robert is a culmination of decades-long honing of his craft, and his performance is devastating. Appearing in almost every scene, some of them without a costar or spoken words, he puts on an acting clinic.

Now You See Me: Now You Don't (2025) Mark Jackson Cinematic cotton candy that melts from the mind, but so did the first two movies which grossed $700 million to lukewarm reviews, which is a kind of magic trick.

The Running Man (2025) Michael Clark I’m not fond of these kinds of movies. Not for quality reasons, but because they leave me feeling unmoved and apathetic. The opposite of love isn’t hate, it’s indifference. Love and hate require passion.

Nuremberg (2025) Michael Clark What is past is prologue. What takes place between the frames in “Nuremberg” should have been the lesson mankind would never forget but somehow has. If we’re not careful, it could very well happen again.

Sentimental Value (2025) Mark Jackson "Sentimental Value" raises the crucial question: is creating art a genuine form of seeking forgiveness? Or is it an elegant way to externalize guilt?

Good Fortune (2025) Mark Jackson One can say, positively, that 'Good Fortune' is fundamentally positive and nice. Unfortunately, the best comedy is often quite mean.

Ballad of a Small Player (2025) Michael Clark It should be made quite clear: “Ballad” isn’t for everyone, or anyone looking for a story providing definitive, clear-cut closure. None of the various plot threads are tied up with neatly knotted bows. Everything is left to interpretation and conjecture.

London Calling (2025) Mark Jackson Veteran assassin is forced to help a crime boss's son become a man—a hitman—in a series of wacky, action-filled setups. Fun premise, bad execution—pun intended.

Roofman (2025) Mark Jackson One of America's failures is not helping soldiers transition back to society. That's not the real story of "Roofman," but one appreciates the artistic license.

The Woman in Cabin 10 (2025) Michael Clark “The Woman in Cabin 10” doesn’t reinvent the murder mystery wheel, but it does offer up an inventive twist on a genre that too often seems to be devoid of original thought.

4.5/5
Anemone (2025) Michael Clark It should be emphasized in the strongest way possible, “Anemone” is not for everyone. Easily the least commercial film Day-Lewis has ever appeared in, it requires great patience and tolerance for ambiguity.

Play Dirty (2025) Michael Clark Clocking in at 128 minutes, “Play Dirty” isn’t [Shane] Black’s longest film (that would be “Iron Man 3”), but it often feels like it. It’s simply too much movie. Black could have easily trimmed 20 minutes from the final cut without any loss of continuity.
