3/4
The American President (1995) Chris Hewitt Gosh, it's been a long time since the movies got romance right.

Babe (1995) Chris Hewitt I can't imagine anybody who wouldn't love this move, and if they're out there, I don't want to meet them.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) Chris Hewitt Some of the dialogue is clever, but the references aren't as up-to-the-minute as they should be.

4/4
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980) Chris Hewitt The most compelling thing about "Empire" has nothing to do with effects. It's Mr. Woke-Up-on-the-Wrong-Side-of-the-Millennium himself, Darth Vader. As he gets deeper and more devious, so does the whole trilogy.

2.5/4
The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996) Chris Hewitt The plot is emotionally complex, and most of the songs are discordant. You don't have to be a graduate of the Sorbonne to understand this, but it would help if you're a graduate of the fourth grade.

Scream (1996) Chris Hewitt Scream makes screaming fun again.

3/4
Alien Resurrection (1997) Chris Hewitt The fourth in the Alien series is the slimiest, the funniest and the most perverse -- which is to say, bring it on!

Pulp Fiction (1994) Chris Hewitt You know the feeling you get when you hit the zone on your favorite radio station and there are half a dozen great songs in a row? That exhilarating combination of surprise arid familiarity is duplicated in the new Quentin Tarantino movie Pulp Fiction.

The Last of the Mohicans (1992) Glenn Lovell [The Last of the Mohicans] shouldn't be approached as a great adaptation of an American classic. And it's certainly no Black Robe. But as classy, first-rate escapism, there's much here to hold the eye and spark the imagination.

3/4
Eve's Bayou (1997) Julie Hinds Kasi Lemons has cooked up a gumbo of simmering lust, sexual confusion, and sibling rivalry, with a pinch of voodoo thrown in.

El Mariachi (1992) Glenn Lovell Lacking the resources of a T2, Rodriguez has done something that's fairly heretical in Hollywood these days: He has subbed imagination humor and a lot of old-fashion camera trickery.

Space Jam (1996) Lawrence Toppman Jordan proves to be as good an actor as he was a baseball player: He connects solidly with a punch line once in a while, but most of his jokes dribble weakly away.

Wes Craven Presents: Dracula 2000 (2000) Bob Curtright Becomes distastefully roiled in religion and stumbles on its own supposed cleverness.
Posted Dec 28, 2000Edit critic review
The Family Man (2000) Bob Curtright Often hilarious but laced with sweetness and an aching undercurrent of poignancy.
Posted Dec 22, 2000Edit critic review
Dude, Where's My Car? (2000) Bob Curtright Jesse and Chester don't have a mean bone in their bodies. And that's the key to their likability.
Posted Dec 19, 2000Edit critic review
The Art of War (2000) Bob Curtright Duguay becomes so enamored of his visuals that he tends to neglect the basics of storytelling until it's almost too late.
Posted Jan 01, 2000Edit critic review
Erin Brockovich (2000) Bob Curtright The movie that should finally get Julia Roberts her well-deserved Oscar as best actress.
