What to Know

Critics Consensus

A swing for the comedy fences, The Hawk may miss more often than it connects but still finds moments of the chaotic charm that made Will Ferrell a standout.

The Hawk doesn’t quite soar to prime sport comedy-heights, but Will Ferrell keeps the laughs rolling through the rough patches.

Will Ferrell’s answer to Happy Gilmore is as much bogey as it is birdie, but there are some tasteless treats to be had. Would have been better as a film, though. Go to Full Review

At his best, Will Ferrell has a special way of being funny... But he’s wasted in this strange and niche comedy. The great golf drama is still waiting to be made – though I have a feeling it never will be. Go to Full Review

In so many ways, The Hawk was trying to give us that "ooh, ah, ah" sensation of yesteryear. It just didn't work. Go to Full Review

Director David Gordon Green (The Righteous Gemstones) usually knows what to do with unlikable characters, but it can be hard to watch the petulant Hawkins as he treats people terribly and thinks only of himself (at least in early episodes). Go to Full Review

Yes, all of this makes for a messy life and it describes a lot of what’s happening in "The Hawk," a show that proves to be a mixed bag. It’s alternately funny and uneven, and never finds a narrative cruise control. Go to Full Review

Is it a stupid show? Yes. Did I laugh the entire time? Also yes. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

Amanda W @RT49291085 16h There are funny moments, I would watch a second seaon, but I didn't love it like I thought I would. See more Joey G @RT85579329 23h It was a good show to watch which family. It was very goofy and included funny golf humor. I thought the characters were perfect for the roles that they played. Will Ferrell always makes the funniest movies and shows. This made me want to play golf. See more Grellan M @RT13324396 1d If you liked Will Ferrell 20 years ago you will love this. It’s Ferrell funny, also properly funny, and just a little bit more grown up. The other cast members are great too - particularly the lady who plays his caddy. See more Benjamin G @BxDxGx 1d "The Hawk" provides a feel good energy along with an updated sense of the modern golfing world. It’s not the most high brow of humor, reminiscent of Happy Gilmore at times, but does have some in there paired up with professional golfer cameos and a positive vibe on the course. As an avid golfer, I’ve actually been watching it more than other options. See more Lee S @LeeJS 1d It was fine. An entertaining couple of hours but it's not Ferrell's best work. See more Mike W @ClintBronson 1d I honestly think it was written with AI because I don’t think a writing team could come up with something so awful. Not one funny thing I the 3 episodes I made it through. I almost felt sorry for the actors but then realized Will Ferrell was out trying to sell this dreck. Please don’t waste your time.
