Harry Angel (Mickey Rourke) is a private detective contracted by Louis Cyphre (Robert De Niro) to track down the iconic singer Johnny Favorite. However, everybody that Angel questions about Favorite seems to meet a tragic demise. Eventually the trail leads Angel to New Orleans where he learns that Favorite had dabbled in the black arts. As Favorite's whereabouts and true identity become clear, Angel learns that being hired by Cyphre was not a random choice.

Metaphysical and emotional anemia is an important tradition in cult horror/mystery, a category the daffy plot twists and crimson, incestuous excesses of Angel Heart sit quite cozily in.

Mickey Rourke in his prime did a fair job. Lisa Bonet in her prime had the appeal the warrant a lead role. It's a dark story that is worth a watch, save for the craptastic performance of Robert Deniro as the devil. His portrayal was so stupid it completely brought me out of the story. It's comically bad. It's seriously a tie between Deniro and the chicken that got sacrificed for which one should have been deleted from the script; probably both. If you can sit through the goofy devil scenes then you might have the patience of a saint.

Angel Heart was a truly amazing experience. Directed by Alan Parker, Starring Mickey Rourke as private investigator Harry Angel who is hired by Louis Cypher (Played by Robert De Niro) to investigate and find a man who owes Cypher. As the story moves forward, Angel learns more and more than he bargains for. This film has mystery, neo noir, and many metaphors. Amazing dialogue, acting, and storytelling. Very fascinating and worth the watch!

Too out there for me. Rourke did okay in the noir vibe and New Orleans was a cool backdrop. De Niro gave me the ick. Bonet was something.
