There is just enough old school drama, humour, and pathos-- so sadly missing in much of 21st century entertainments--that aspire to become a part of this genre. Not since, The Red Shoes, and, The Wizard of Oz, have there been many films that have transported viewers to the realm of such a creative epoch in motion pictures. This film serves to be highly regarded as the visual treat that it is, for generations of future film watchers to appreciate. Thank you. Gary L. Karwoski. See more Joel H @786Joel 02/06/2024 Moulin Rouge! (with an exclamation point) is one of my favorite films. I actually didn't know that Moulin Rouge (without an exclamation point) existed until recently, but I was interested in learning more about the life of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, so I gave it a watch. It turns out that Toulouse-Lautrec had a pretty miserable life, and José Ferrer plays him in a way that makes that obvious to the audience. The film has a slow and tedious pace, and everyone seems generally unhappy. Perhaps Moulin Rogue would have resonated more with me if I had been more familiar with Toulouse-Lautrec's artwork. See more Cindy L @RT50805959 09/08/2022 If you love the art movement of the late 1800s. You'll love this biopic of Toulouse-Lautrec French painter. The director did the film in the color scheme of Lautrec's work. Jose Ferrer was 5'10" and played Lautrec. Lautrec was less than 5' tall. The director had legs made for Ferrer which he strapped on his knees.
