Charles H @RT23363367 Apr 9 I've read negative reviews about this film, and it appears to me there are Steve Martin lovers, and Steve Martin haters. Count me among the first group. Give me The Jerk, Roxanne, Leap of Faith, Father of the Bride, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, Housesitter, and yes..My Blue Heaven, and I'm a happy couch potato. Hell, I even like the Pink Panther remakes. His movies aren't made to please the critics, nor to win awards. Steve Martin is the consummate class clown, the same guy I was back in school, and thank God for guys like us. Don't any of you remember how tedious and boring it was back then? Y'all needed guys like Steve Martin and me, and thanks to half the country that takes themselves way too seriously, trying to ruin everyone's days with their liberal political bullsh--, y'all need us now more than ever. I liked Steve Martin's "Vinnie" role. It was supposed to be over the top. I enjoyed Vinnie and Barney in a similar way to that of Grodin & De Niro in Midnight Run. Lighten up folks. His caricature of a mobster would have worked in a three-minute SNL sketch, but for 1.5 hours? It was desperately boring. Moranis was a straight man. Cusack played her usual uptight character (School of Rock). Who was funny? And why am I watching 25 dance numbers or whatever? What a mess. See more Eric S @eslyter Jul 6 I love Steve Martin and Rick Moranis, but this movie did everyone involved an injustice, despite being written by Nora Ephron with production by her, Goldie Hawn, and Andrew Stone. The worst thing about it was probably Steve Martin's forced New York accent while playing a character that didn't fit him. He was so bad for the role, though it pains me to say it. Even had another actor played his part, I don't think I would have enjoyed this movie any more than I did. The script is corny, boring, and not funny. Pass on this one if you haven't seen it.
