Bob L @Dudeorama5 Jul 12 It was a fun movie. A little clunky. I’m still not sure who Mr.britchard was or what his significance. Was he an inmate or tge warden. Anyways, minus some character confusion on the whole Benny hill chubby chasing and molestation it was an interesting movie. The last 30 minutes were the best. The final 30 could have held the movie on its own. See more Matthew T @RT18266008 Jul 12 Deservedly popular and iconic, I loved this as a kid, and, as an adult and writer now, can appreciate the subtle mechanics that create a slow build up to an incredibly entertaining heist, build up that gives us time to care about the heroes and loathe the villains, and all of it carried off with that quintessential British cheekiness. it is vERY off its time, and the dismissive way women are treated onscreen going into the 70s, a step backward after the daring 60s, is the only negative here (a trend you can also see in the Bond movies of the period). The technology (computers running on tapes) also looks very dated now. But none of that takes from the performances (Caine and Coward), the sheer brioche, the comedy (the thieves are charmingly childish), and the stunts. The later remake is not worthy to share the name. If you want to teach anyone about British culture - this is pretty much it.
