As one of three daughters of the wealthy Sir Walter (Corin Redgrave), Anne (Amanda Root) is a privileged but lonely member of the English aristocracy. When her father leaves on a trip, he rents out part of his estate to relatives of Anne's ex-fiancé, Capt. Frederick Wentworth (Ciarán Hinds). Though Anne demurred over the marriage because of Wentworth's poor social standing and connections, he has since become very successful, and when he visits, Anne must confront the life she left behind.

Wonderful actors but the script could use a little more work to match the caliber of Emma Thompson's script of Sense and Sensibility or either of the best versions of Pride and Prejudice. Aber im Nachhinein war es nicht mehr wichtig, Amanda Root war so gefühlvoll und so brilliant in ihrer Rolle. Ich habe mit ihr mitgelitten, mich gefreut für sie und ich wäre gerne ihre Freundin. Auch Mary Musgrove und Captains Frederick waren brilliant besetzt. Ein wunderbarer Film, den man öfters anschauen kann! See more Regina P @RT45936356 10/09/2023 There's a reason why this story (or version of this story) has been largely forgotten. It is largely forgettable. I liked the story. It follows the formula of stories from that era. The romantic tension of the couple that you know will end up together was played out well. The race to get a husband/patron was all in there. The suitor who only had selfish interest was there, too. The story didn't hit home, though. My favorite film with this template is Keira Knightley's version of 'Pride and Prejudice'. I can watch that film multiple times. This story has that potential as well, but it didn't quite have the same impact on me. See more Read all reviews
