When the dolphin mascot of Miami's NFL team is abducted, Ace Ventura, a zany private investigator who specializes in finding missing animals, looks into the case. Soon Miami Dolphins players are kidnapped too, including star player Dan Marino, making Ace's sleuth work even more pressing. Working with Dolphins representative Melissa Robinson, Ace closes in on the culprits, but not before many ridiculous misadventures.

The twist ending is unnecessary and has the unsavory side effect of teaching millions of young Ace fans that it’s unimaginably gross for a man to kiss a trans woman — this from a movie whose hero talks out of his butt.

Woof. This was a pretty tough watch. Jim Carrey puts 100% into every role and that's clearly evident with Ace Ventura. That being said, the humor in this film is super off-putting. I know that I'm watching it with 2020's glasses on, but I couldn't get over some of the jokes. Best Character: Ace Best Quote: "If I'm not back in five minutes... just wait longer." - Ace Best Scene: The Fancy Dinner Note: The concept of the Miami Dolphin Mascot being kidnapped by someone mad at Dan Marino is classic.

Ace Ventura is a perfect comedy. Silly, wild, completely inappropriate, and hilarious. Just sit back and enjoy laughs from the before times. Thank god these movies exist.

This whole movie was an exercise in mental endurance. I hated it so much I had to make an account to post this review. Its brand of comedy is so relentlessly over-the-top, stupid, and juvenile that it borders on unwatchable. It’s aged abysmally, and the passage of time doesn’t excuse its gross transphobia, ableism, or sexist "humor". And I say this as someone who actually ENJOYS dark/offensive humor. But this was just lazy. So, so unfunny. Every scene felt like a new personal attack on my brain cells. There was actually a decent detective plot buried under the screeching nonsense, but it was completely drowned out by the brain-melting attempts at humor. How it was ever considered a comedy classic speaks more to the low bar set for male-driven slapstick in the ’90s than to any merit of its own. At best, it’s a cultural artifact worth examining for its failures. At worst, it’s a deeply offensive, incredibly tedious film that should’ve been left in the past.
