Jace E @thefilmguy 3d We're in a bit of a slog for Pixar. It's much better than Cars 2, but not up to the typical Pixar standard. The animation of Merida's hair is incredible, the story is fine and the humor is decent. Extra points because I'm a sucker for a good bonding montage. Brave offers the same old recycled story that we see in every coming of age film. It’s predictable, has no substance, and often little to no consequences. Nothing happened to her when she turned her mother into a bear. Her mother forgave her immediately after she embarrassed her during the archery ceremony. No consequences, no sitting with the emotions, just plain bland. There were parts I liked, I liked the songs, I think the voice acting was good, I appreciate that they hired actual Scottish actors/actresses. The animation wasn’t the absolute best but it still deserves to be talked about in some regard. Overall, not the best. Coulda been so much more. They stupidly fired Branda Chapman as the director (is that her name?), and replaced her with someone else, resulting in a film with two different halves. One being this coming-of-age princess tale, and another being a body-swap ticking time-bomb. I don’t hate it, I get enjoyment out of it every time, but it’s such a fundamentally flawed film.
