Alice (Natalie Portman), an American stripper who has moved to London, meets Dan (Jude Law) on the street. While looking at him, a taxi hits her. After taking her to the hospital, Dan begins dating Alice. A year later, Dan -- who has written a novel about Alice -- is bored. He flirts with photographer Anna (Julia Roberts). Pretending to be her in a chat room, he leads dermatologist Larry (Clive Owen) to an accidental meeting with Anna. As the years pass, both relationships disintegrate.

Clive Owen gives the deepest and most emotionally nuanced performance as a dermatologist desperate for love and loyalty, and Natalie Portman is a close second as the coy stripper beholden to Jude Law's self-centered, stalled writer.

It’s cut-the-fat structure results in more than a few nifty narrative tricks (almost avoiding genre cliche in the process), but opens the door to a rather hollow experience. The performances are remarkable though. Owen and Portman have never been better; their two scenes together steal the entire movie. Nichols too (though hardly covering new territory) has a blast of a time, filming with well judged nuance. Every fractured emotion pouring from these broken but realistic characters.

It's an ok movie. Not great. Not terrible. Just ok. Clive Owen's delivers some savage line though. He's definitely a stand out.

Very unique. The acting is phenomenal. Natalie Portman and Clive Owen are somehow the protagonists while Julia Roberts and Jude Law are intensely unlikeable. But that’s on purpose.
