Christian W 01/03/2023 It really missed some opportunities. Nearly no interactions with differently sized people: the same story could've been told without shrinking anyone. Squandered possibilities, following one guy's journey and he wasn't even among the most interesting people. See more Mike S @RT81617967 Jul 19 Terrible movie. Matt Damon is cast as a buffoon and the lead actress is trying really hard to have an Asian accent. It's completely unbelievable. All around, this is a really bad movie. Don't bother. See more Steven H @Hoc01 Jun 14 I would argue that Downsizing is not a failed satire but a misunderstood masterpiece — misunderstood largely because it asks more of the viewer than the viewer may have been prepared to give. It begins with a comic science-fiction conceit, then gradually strips away the expected pleasures of that conceit until what remains is something stranger and more unsettling: a meditation on consumption, class, mortality, environmental collapse, and the small acts of mercy that may be the only meaningful answer to catastrophe. Critics who complained that the film "lost the plot" may have missed that losing the plot is precisely its method. The movie keeps shrinking the scale of its concerns until the fate of the world becomes inseparable from whether one person can choose compassion over self-preservation. That is not narrative failure. That is philosophical design. See more Briana I. @Anaire Jun 8 This wasn't good or bad, it was just all over the place and felt like 3 separate movie plots compiled into one. Matt was good and I loved the romance aspect between him and Hong Chau but mostly everything else just didn't work because it was over written. They started if smart with the whole little aspect and his wife leaving him which in my opinion was a huge missed opportunity to not keep a heavy hitter like Kristen Wig in the film. As soon as her character was obsolete I knew it was going nowhere and I was right. Waltz was good as well but I just think with this all-star cast they could have done a better job executing this film had they kept it about the conversion to little from big and incoperated the big humans in more. Missed opportunity on so many levels and very busy as a plot. Yes I recommend but it's not the best. See more Read all reviews
