Chris L @Christoph2000 3d If any teen movie besides Ferris Bueller's Day Off deserves to be considered a bona fide teen classic from cinema's greatest decade, Fast Times is it. Look at how many stars it churned out! Remember when Dustin Henderson said his gf Suzy was 'hotter than Phoebe Cates?' Yep, brilliant reference point. A whole lot of VHS tapes were ruined back in the day by excessive pausing during *that* scene. As uproariously funny as that was, Sean Penn's entrance on the scene is what floods the movie with most of its best comedy. God, that man has range, and this was the very first sign of it. I loved every moment, and there's no point in pretending that that isn't partially because of how risqué it became. There are serious points about the casual disdain with which too many teen boys treat the young ladies in their lives to be made too. Amy Heckerling was quoted as saying 'if you woke up and found yourself living in the movie, you'd be happy. I wanted that kind of feel.' Ray Walston, also great, has a nice rapport with Penn. The future cast of all stars show why they made it in Hollywood with their performances. Amy Heckerling gets great performances out of her cast and Cameron Crowe's writing is honest. This deserves its classic status. Like I could never be your woman, Clueless, Vamps, This is definitely one of her best. Cameron Crowe is the screenwriter. This movie is based on his book. There is an old saying that says you should always write what you know. And he definitely knows the high school experience. This is probably one of those cases where the movie it's just as awesome as the book. Even though the movie was made in 1982 it still has themes that even today's teenagers can relate to.
