I enjoyed that this one was much faster paced in the first half than the original. I enjoyed Kirsty being the main character too. Gorgeous actress! Still lots of amazing body horror special effects. Plenty of sensuality too, like the women writhing in ecstasy under the sheets. The other world was very esoteric but really cool. I forgive these movies with plot, because they are very imaginative and the effects are so captivating, two things often missing from modern horror. Definitely still grotesque. The sequel leans heavily on elaborate set pieces and surreal visuals, sometimes at the expense of suspense and pacing. The Cenobites remain strikingly grotesque, and the film delivers moments of extreme gore, but the story feels convoluted, and the emotional stakes are less immediate. While fans of the original will appreciate the expanded universe and creative effects, the overall impact is diluted.
