Alex (Ben Stiller), Morty (Chris Rock) and other zoo animals find a way to escape from Madagascar when the penguins reassemble a wrecked airplane. The sequel to the 2005 Madagascar is as spunky, witty and funny. However, what's a let-down perhaps is the story, which takes the same course as The Lion King, with a detour towards Shrek thrown in.

Felt like the first film, the only difference was that the actual story took a bit too long to get going again, and once it did, I was like "that's all?" At least it has the meme that everyone prolly knows what I'm talking about.

Still brilliant, and then some ... Growing from strength to strength. Story and directing still great, amazing cinematography and stunning visuals. More "matured" characters with intense interaction between them. Usual sharp wit, action, fast pace, drama, calamity, suspense, intrigue and more emotion than before. Whole stellar cast still excels in character, very convincingly. Highly entertaining and captivating

A sequel that improves on the original in practically every way, even if it’s still just merely “good”. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa I think is a superior version of the first movie. Basically, this whole trilogy is an adventure along the way to a long journey home. In which case, each entry is kind of structured like an act. And I find this to be a more entertaining, emotional, and funny adventure compared to its predecessor. It’s still not high art or anything, and the story along with the plotting is still pretty basic. But the characters have stronger arcs, richer backstories, and I think there’s just more fun to be had. A very solid follow-up to a beloved original.
