Jo & Co 09/14/2022 When I saw this movie when it first appeared in 1974 I was disappointed. It was different and I thought it was the worse one of the franchise. Apart from Christopher Lee, who was the only redeeming thing in it, there was nothing at all in its favour. How things change. "The Man With The Golden Gun" was re-released at the cinema here in the Cayman Islands as part of their Tuesday night "Classics" yesterday (Tue 13 Sep). A young 20 year old beautiful Jamaican lady (Phyllisia) staying with Jo and myself had never seen it and talked me into watching it again. There was nothing in the movie that changed, apart form being on the "BIG" screen, but I, along with Jo and Phyllysia LOVED It!! It was exciting, it was funny, even with Clifton James as the tobacco chewing/spitting over the top US Sheriff from the previous Bon movie, was engaging. I had HATED him being in it before. And all the acting was top notch. Yes, Chris Lee did again steal the movie for me and that was the same call from both Jo and Phyllisia. We were not alone. A lady sitting in front of us said "it was fabulous". We all agreed. The question that puzzles me is why didn't I like it the first showing all those years ago? Christopher Lee is easily the highlight as Scaramanga, bringing a calm, menacing presence that feels worthy of a better script. Unfortunately, the film around him is uneven. The plot feels thin and occasionally aimless, lacking the tension and intrigue expected from a Bond outing. Roger Moore’s Bond comes across as more flippant than usual, which undercuts some of the stakes. The humor is hit-or-miss, often leaning too goofy, and certain side characters feel more annoying than entertaining. Even the action sequences, while not bad, lack the punch and creativity seen in stronger entries. There are glimpses of what could have been a great film, but inconsistent tone and weak storytelling hold it back. Può piacere o meno, ma la sceneggiatura è totalmente incentrata su questo concetto, per cui l'infallibile James Bond viene costantemente risparmiato per lo scontro finale che viene invece vinto in maniera semplice e netta. Alcune sequenze di azione si fanno ammirare per l'originalità; mentre la sceneggiatura è abbastanza carente. Per i fan degli 007 classici questo film sarà poco apprezzato, per chi è più bei disposto verso l'originalità e la sperimentazione, ci sono sicuramente degli elementi interessanti.
