Leonard (Guy Pearce) is tracking down the man who raped and murdered his wife. The difficulty, however, of locating his wife's killer is compounded by the fact that he suffers from a rare, untreatable form of memory loss. Although he can recall details of life before his accident, Leonard cannot remember what happened fifteen minutes ago, where he's going, or why.

Very complex detective thriller. Guy Pearce (leads) a terrific cast alongside Carrie Anne Moss. If you want to see the beginnings of how Nolan became such a big director, this is one to watch. Go to Full Review

Think of all the ways that a linear film structure stabilizes us - the cause and effect chain of events. But Memento is about a character completely destabilized, so Nolan destabilizes us accordingly in a way maybe no other movie has. Go to Full Review

Memento would only be half as fun with only one gimmick or the other. Instead, the backward storytelling and the frozen man make for a wonderful pair, combining into something far more redemptive than it sounds. Go to Full Review

Memento isn't an easy film, but it gives viewers plenty to ponder. And Pearce's startling performance is unforgettable. Go to Full Review

Memento places you in the mind of the protagonist in a fascinating way—by running it in reverse, you only know as much as the protagonist remembers—and that constantly makes you question what you’ve been told and what you see next. Go to Full Review

See more Michael M. @RT25873090 4d Nostalgic 90s vibe. Brings me back to my childhood. Hard movie for me to follow with all the back and forth however. 3-5 stars out of respect for the acclaimed film. See more Jace E @thefilmguy May 19 I am so torn about my feelings toward "Memento". On one hand, the idea of portraying half the story in chronological order and the other half in reverse is incredibly ambitious. On the other hand, the story structure gave me a massive headache. At the end of the day, I was intrigued by the film and glued from start to finish. I wanted a satisfying conclusion and I got something different, which is what makes Nolan movies what they are. Note: Guy Pearce is a better bad guy. Best Character: Teddy Best Quote: "I have to believe in a world outside my own mind. Very impressive. Excellent acting from both Guy Pearce and Joe Pantoliano and a truly unique, thought-provoking script from Christopher Nolan. The story is told in such a way that I found myself completely immersed in Lenny's plight; my god, I struggled to stay on top of all the details! I saw a comment from someone saying how the film intentionally overloads the viewer with a variety of information from different timelines and how it really enhances the short-term memory loss theme of the film. I couldn't agree more; eventually, you stop trying to recall what happens and just let the film happen. You don't attempt to make sense of details and build a narrative but rather just live through the rest of the film. In a similar way to Lenny (allegedly) choosing to look past the likely truth that he killed his wife and continuing to lead his life in the same quest to find her elusive killer. I think this is an absolutely brilliant film and I highly recommend it!
