l J @RT93924852 Jul 17 I don’t understand why there is so much animosity towards this film. I thought the pacing and editing were spot on. The cinematography was incredible, and the performances balanced. I also appreciated how it didn’t become another predictable, violent and gore laden affair. And the end was more realistic than most American films of this genre. I appreciate the ambition and execution of this creative process. See more Angelica N @Ace_04 May 17 I really enjoy James McAvoy in almost anything he does and his performance in My Son is great but this movie missed the mark. The turmoil we go through as McAvoy and Foy try to find their son I needed a more satisfactory ending than what were left with. We're never really told what McAvoy's character does for a living, we're just supposed to accept that he works in oil, travels for work and be spooked by the fact that he worked in Iraq. The fact that this is supposed to be such a big deal with local police taken off the case by London HQ for Scotland Yard is never addressed. Despite this, McAvoy does rescue his son, discovering it's part of a larger child smuggling network. But, THEN after he's rescued his son, he's be detained, for what crime exactly I'm not clear on, and he's taken away from his son but we're supposed to be happy? I find that ending very frustrating. The film follows Edmond Murray after he learns his 7-year-old son has disappeared, prompting him to launch his own investigation rather than wait for slow police procedures. While the premise is familiar, the movie builds suspense effectively, pulling viewers deeper into a web of conspiracy and uncertainty. For most of its runtime, it keeps the audience hooked with solid pacing and an intense atmosphere. However, the final stretch undercuts much of that momentum, resolving Edmond’s story in a way that feels anticlimactic while leaving too many important questions unanswered.
