What to Know

Critics Consensus

Finding a fresh angle on one of the most dramatized days in military history, Pressure is a brainy war film that derives most of its thrills from Andrew Scott's simmering performance.

Brendan Fraser and Andrew Scott are just as fierce as the storms in Pressure, an intense D-Day drama that sharply captures a pivotal, life-stakes moment in history.

Fraser’s Eisenhower is physically imposing and stubborn too... But he’s frankly less interesting than Scott’s multifaceted Stagg, a character and performance that elevates an otherwise efficient, well-made war movie into something more intriguing. Go to Full Review

For all the prior cinematic depictions of storming bunkers and camaraderie under fire, Pressure offers us the quiet heroism of rational restraint in the figure of James Stagg, who weathered his inner storms and bore the courage to be disliked. Go to Full Review

The mushy score, absurdly pompous speeches, and Victorian staginess harmonize with Mr. Fraser’s conception of his role as the emoter in chief. Go to Full Review

Death, taxes, and war movies about the untold perspectives of events that shaped the world. These are life’s inevitabilities, and Pressure, a movie about the D-Day meteorologists, is the latest of the latter. Go to Full Review

The staginess remains visible throughout, and the film embraces it rather than disguising it. In fact, this plays like filmed theater of a high order, one that rewards close attention to faces and words over spectacle. Go to Full Review

If you think that a movie about weather forecasting would be duller than dishwater, think again. It makes a well-known historical event into a nail biting, suspenseful war time drama. Go to Full Review

EliseW 46m Tightly paced, impactful war drama. D-Day is burned into our minds thanks to Spielberg but Pressure presents an angle not commonly considered. How can weather make or break a strategy that in hindsight we know to be crucial to the defeat of Nazi Germany. I'm not much for war films as they can often blend and blur, and I prefer to see a horror film in theaters but the premise for Pressure really hooked me. As much as governments are systems made up of thousands, there are individual people making vital decisions. World War II is probably the most depicted war in human history, so to find a fresh take is difficult but Pressure manages. See more helena 1h Excelente movie. The story was captivating and the tensin high during the entire movie! Amazing actors. See more Michael E 1h Historical reminder. Well done.kept my interest See more Debbie B. 1h An excellent drama about what Ive always thought must have been the most incredibly difficult decision of WWII. Excellent cinematography, brilliant acting. Highly recommend for both history buffs and those who know little about history. See more Austin 2h You get to feel the stakes that they went. At first, a slow burn. But eventually, an epic decision that feels very visceral and real. Andrew Scott is the standout of this film. See more Candace 5h We thought it was good. We had parents in that war, which made the invasion scenes very impactful. The only character that we didnt care for was the actor portraying Dwight Eisenhower. Ike was not overweight nor that bald. We would have cast someone else in that role. See more Read all reviews
