St. Maud marks a stunning feature film debut for writer-director Rose Glass. Understated yet opulent, measured, and intensely creepy, it's a tour de force in balancing uncomfortable levels of tension and suspense with deep pathos. Go to Full Review

Glass makes a number of savvy directorial choices throughout Saint Maud, and the sharpest is to limit what we see, hear, and know to her heroine's point of view. Go to Full Review

Torben E @Torben 3d A very unsettling movie. VERY unsettling because the more the main character is trying to understand what is happening around her the more you are going to feel that the whole story will be coming to a very bad end eventually. There are some twists and turns to keep you guessing but it all leads down a dark alley. This movie is probably not for everyone but it's great film-making. Morfydd Clark and Jennifer Ehle are both amazing and they carry the whole story line with ease. But I have to mention Morfydd Clark again because she's the absolute center of this film. Her acting is incredibly intense and you will definitely share Maud's pain from the first minute to the last. I hope that Morfydd Clarke will take more roles in smart indie films in the future because she is extremely talented and easily manages to give her film characters depth and complexity, without using too many words. Her feeling "God" in the beginning was initially a little confusing but once I got the hang of what was going on it made more sense. I also thought it added to an unknown factor in the movie. I love the suspense and never knowing what’s going to happen. The ending of the movie was pleasantly not at all what I expected. It truly delivered. I loved this movie and would highly recommend it. See more James M @RT18838290 Mar 29 Saint Maud is the movie equivalent of a child who can't decide what they want to be when they grow up. It was kind of a horror movie; it was kind of about someone turning to religion after a very vaguely conveyed earlier trauma; it was kind of about loneliness. As often happens when you try to do too many things at once, it did none of them well. Because Katie/Maud's history was never made even remotely clear, her psychological progression through the movie was implausible. And other than Maud, and to a lesser extent, Amanda, all the other characters were just cardboard tropes. Don't waste your time on this movie. See more Read all reviews
