“Shark Skin Man and Peach Hip Girl” is a truly great movie, one that will definitely appeal to fans of Tsukamoto, Miike, Sono, Toyoda etc, and a reminder of how unique Japanese cinema used to be.

Great menu music (by Kihochi Mori?), but the movie looks like it was filmed with the same potato the plot was written on. "Crazy mob runaways." Watch Pulp Fiction and The Matrix instead. 0.4/10 - Dull even at 1.85x speed.

This is a - straight to video, a sub genre in japanese media. Not to say sub quality, but think of it more as independent film. in that sub genre, this is a deep cut. one of my favorite hidden gems. Tadanobu Asano is great and easily carries the narrative through the psycho charcuterie of characters, Tadanobu Asano always picks interesting eccentric roles in his earlier career. Most of the side characters are acting heavy weights in there own right as well. If you enjoyed this Directors style then check out Survive Style 5 as well. this is one of my absolute favorite films

A lot of thought went into the characters, and the plot is more complex than the average film. The problem is, there are only a few moments when anything you see on screen connects emotionally to you.
