Rene L @NeNe56 Jan 2 What a waste of a good cast. I think it’s supposed to be moving and cerebral. Instead it was just slow, plodding, uninteresting and one of those times where I powered through it hoping that there would be an amazing revelation that would redeem my time suffering through it. I’m about 3/4 done and so far, not. Would have had more fun watching a Looney Tunes marathon. One somewhat redeeming thing, caught snippets of some good old songs I hadn’t forgotten about such as God Is Standing By from The Soul Stirrers. If I had paid to see this in a theater I would have been very annoyed. A very talented cast that are horribly wasted due to terrible writing. Aiming for an immersive tone over a clear plot but butchering both. The camera angles are so uncomfortable & don’t help the awkward romantic moments in the slightest. The only aspect worth commending is the cinematography, even if it’s bland, it’s still beautiful. Add to that a sound profile that fluctuates wildly, and now my volume indicator is another element on the screen that is detracting from the performances. It’s a cerebral movie, that feels much more like a book at times, not just because of its length/lack of dialogue but because it is an exercise in showing physical reaction and the material as the means of any communication/development. Because of that the visuals and acting can be enticing at times, but not enough to keep you locked in for so long. It’s a very human movie, but the plot detracts too much from the human experience (and frankly just drags on too long) that the films redeeming qualities aren’t enough to make you want to recommend or watch again.
