What to Know

Critics Consensus

Spaceman's poignant themes are partly brought to life by sensitive performances from a talented cast, but it fails to consistently engage with its most interesting ideas.

Audience Says

Spaceman definitely isn't for everybody, but it does a decent job of adapting a slow, cerebral story that's easier to engage with in print.

No matter how much Sandler makes the audience feel for Jakub, it can be hard to sustain an entire picture with nothing more than overarching sadness. And “Spaceman” never finds another register. Go to Full Review

Spaceman is ultimately Sandler’s show but it’s one astronaut movie that ultimately seems very short on rocket fuel. Go to Full Review

For whatever reason, everyone in this film seems to have been instructed to speak with the lethargic, hypnotic delivery of a depressed masseuse. Go to Full Review

Sandler mostly exhibits moments of loneliness and despair, and it is not too often that his character is seen freaking out to a high degree. Go to Full Review

J B @RT87465558 3d Well- it could be because I’m putting my sweet family dog down in two days , and my heart is breaking over the fact that my beautiful sweet Mom died without me near her and I’m ALL KINDS OF FUCKED UP over that- but this movie was exactly what I needed tonight. There is reverence for the fallibility of humans and the pain of life and death- and the beauty in the inevitability of it all. This movie deals with TIME and SPACE - and the question of infinity will make you consider your place in this universe. Adam Sandler is one of my favourite actors- he can alternately break your heart in a drama like this or make you cringe in some of his comedies but he is always interesting , amusing and exciting. BRING IT ON ADAM! See more Amber W. @amberwillow67 Apr 14 Beautiful story. Beautifully told. See more David H. @rivrocks Apr 14 The spider mentions having hope. If it takes a talking space spider to explain relationships to you, there is probably none for you. Same for whoever decides to have children with you. Same for a well adjusted person trying to glean anything useful from this movie. See more A D @RT97099856 Mar 31 I went in with little to no expectations beyond a strange movie about a talking spider. Yet despite its bizarre outward appearance the movie has a beautiful core, touching on a topic more and more important today, that of stopping to smell the flowers. Or more specifically, at the risk of sounding like a motivational poster, to live and to love. The message may not be new, but the method of telling it certainly is, and it tells it well. I didn't think I would be able to care for a giant spider, but I did. And I didn't think I would care for a mostly emotionless Adam Sandler, but the "quiet" performance allows the smaller moments to shine. It may not be for everyone (arachnophobes in particular should probably skip this one), but despite my low expectations, I had a good time and it has stuck with me. What more could you ask for. See more Julio T @RT65791633 Mar 8 Una excelente película, supero mis expectativas y con un final muy emotivo See more Marco L @decatur555 Mar 6 Spaceman is an odd, introspective sci-fi film that feels less interested in spectacle than in emotional isolation. What makes it intriguing is the constant uncertainty: are we watching reality, grief, or the distorted perceptions of a man who has spent too long alone in space? Adam Sandler works surprisingly well in such a restrained register, keeping everything internal, which suits the film’s reflective tone. At times it can feel too slow and too muted, and not every idea fully lands, but there’s still something hypnotic about it. The ship, the silence, and the sense of total isolation are all used effectively, creating a mood that stays with you. Uneven, yes, but strange enough to remain interesting. See more Read all reviews
