A wannabe actress (Alex Essoe) is tempted by a producer to, you know, for a part. Takes the metaphor of Hollywood corruption and smacks you upside the head with it. That lack of subtlety irritated me. Essoe does give a committed performance but after a solid build up the film devolves into a boring killing spree.

Maybe Starry Eyes is trying to make a well-intentioned point about how young actors are objectified and treated as disposable, but it doesn’t offer enough depth to make any kind of meaningful statement.

Starry Eyes from directors Kevin Kolsch & Dennis Widmyer, bring a tale of fake friendships, struggling actors & throw it all into a nightmarish dark decent of the personal price & lengths one will go for fame before spiralling into a slow transformation of pure blood-soaked rage. Lead actress Alex Essoe delivers a wonderful & bloody performance as the struggling wannabe star, that brings an unnerving mix of ambition, fear & uncomfortable panic-inducing self injuries.
