Moon S @MoonShineDivine Feb 8 I almost didn't watch this movie based on the low star ratings but that's proof that you can't always take those for face value... With that said, I found the movie to be cinematically beautiful with its moody, dark, Victorian / Gothic atmosphere, costumes and sets were deliciously detailed. The cast was very well selected, there were not any actors that I felt did not do a great job with their role. The storyline is family friendly but it definitely has a mature, sometimes melancholy undertone, which gives it depth, definitely not just a kid's movie, it's definitely equipped to keep an adult's attention going. Reminds me a tiny bit of Lemony Snicket in the best way. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this film and would recommend it, definitely seems underrated. The Captain Will is so well done, the whole movie is carried by him alone. I think the critics were much too hard on a fun adventure with good scenery, production, and acting. It's sad critics may have cost this movie it's sequel. It would have been so fun to see Captain Will come back with the actor who played him. But watching a 10 year old 'Indiana Jones' style movie, that doesn't rely on special effects and clever gags to get you through to the end, was quite enjoyable. But it has an easy to follow plot, a fabulous cast, and a great plot twist at the end in extended scenes! Also very family friendly! See more 09/11/2021 I do not understand the bad reviews, above all with all the dull and cliché family movies in the market, some studios seem to make the same movie again and again. This is a great adventure movie in the style of Indiana Jones or The Mummy. There is mystery, quest, and darkness. The characters have to prove their wit and courage to fight evil and the movie is beautifully done. I would have liked to see more of the family relation and the complexity of the characters, however this movie is in the line of a first adventure saga episode and I guess this is shown in future movies. There are complex machines, interesting costumes, ancient artifacts, choices to do to make you use your brain and comment while seeing the film! It would be great to have a family series and be able to see this world of punk steam, archaeology, history, mysteries, and courage facing adversity (precisely now!) fully developed.
