A teenage orphan, Portia Quayne (Jojo Cole) is sent to live with her half brother, Thomas (Nigel Havers), and his wife, Anna (Patricia Hodge). Although Portia can't relate to her proper, uptight relatives, she becomes intrigued with Eddie (Daniel Chatto), a handsome young local man.
