When the film comes back to focusing on Daniel and Michelle, and when O’Brien and Wu are able to fire sparks at one another over grand cosmic questions, the dark forest of The Outer Threat feels rather bright.

Even when [William] Woods's dialogue becomes a heavy-handed exercises in passing the torch to our young, [Callista] Crowe and [Isaac] Smelcer-Zhang thankfully give us more than enough reason to believe it.

The Outer Threat does a lot with a little. Without large set pieces to fall back on, director William Woods maintains a simple, understated approach that values ideas and family relations over spectacle.

SPOILERS: I mean, the acting and dialogue weren't *horrible* but the story was just embarassing. An 8 year old somehow manages to save the planet by running a little script. Just for mum and dad to say "nah, let's torch it anyway"? It's absurd. And even with the plot as it was it was just missing lots of setup and tension build-up. Very underwhelming.

At last an intelligent sci-fi. Not sure why emulating three body problems and other intelligent sci-fi is shit away by movie makers. This was an excellent movie of course it could’ve been further developed or definite must see.
