In this new film, Jack Ryan is reluctantly thrust back into the world of espionage when an international covert mission unravels a deadly conspiracy, forcing him to confront a rogue black-ops unit, and the clock is ticking. Operating in real time with lives on the line and the threat escalating at every turn, Jack reunites with battle-tested CIA operative Mike November (Michael Kelly) and former CIA boss James Greer (Wendell Pierce), their combined experience the only edge they have against an enemy who knows their every move. Backed by an unlikely new partner -- razor-sharp MI6 officer Emma Marlowe (Sienna Miller) -- Jack and the team navigate a treacherous web of betrayal, facing a past they thought was long put to rest -- making this the most personal, high-stakes mission any of them have ever faced.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Plowing through a routine globe-trotting with mechanical efficiency but little else, Jack Ryan: Ghost War reduces John Krasinski's once-compelling CIA operative to a personality-free action cipher.

The movie does set up potential for a continuing movie franchise. Mostly, though, Jack Ryan: Ghost War feels like a sad state of affairs for the world’s dads (and dads at heart), who deserve to see airport-novel espionage brought to less chintzy life. Go to Full Review

Krasinski executive produced and co-wrote the screenplay but doesn’t seem to have been very interested in character development or meaningful dialogue. Go to Full Review

[Krasinski] makes you care whether Ryan can get out of pickle after pickle, enough to make you wish there will be another Ryan standalone film in the future. Go to Full Review

Bernstein doesn’t know where to place, block, and move the camera, nor does he understand how to edit action. They frequently become nauseating. Go to Full Review

Krasinski is a good action star but he's a little bland here due to writing, producing, starring, and basically attempting to be a Jack Ryan of all trades. Go to Full Review

A routine return for Jack Ryan and friends, as a new conspiracy pulls him out of civilian life, but this globe-trotting actioner is more functional than fun Go to Full Review

Suzana N @Suzana 14h The opening scene — rife with cliches, illogic and needless endangerment of the local citizenry — set the stage for the rest of the film. I didn’t want Betty Gabriel’s character to die, but she was likely relieved to be free of the disintegrating franchise. See more Jacqueline R @Quasi1159 1d Who genuinely asked for this? You can tell there's no budget, its an extremely vapid film with nothing to offer See more Jimmy Z @RT10765769 3d I wish I could rate it lower. It was really boring. The writing was just so so awful. The dialog sounded AI it was just so uninspired. Please reboot this with new creatives and a new cast. I like Krasinski, but this is a wrong role for him. He is not comfortable wearing this suit. See more Andrew T @RT72355796 Jul 22 This movie is not good but it’s not terrible. It is just average in every sense of the word. It is just bland and characterless. It is not worth watching again for any reason, but it’s not terrible. It is just not good. 5/10 See more Steve D @RT35616104 Jul 19 Not a Ryan fan and this is the worst of them.
