10/22/2021 I got a Hulu subscription just so I could see this documentary. It was fascinating to see the group's genesis and the growth of the individuals making up Freestyle Love Supreme through such a long lens. Great job. See more 07/23/2020 Brilliantly directed & edited, weaving the current (2019) timeline into the past timelines of the group's founding (mostly ‘05-‘07), Tommy Kail gives you a super intimate look into not only what excites and makes Lin-Manuel Miranda tick but also what formed the foundation of his early career achievements in "In The Heights" and "Hamilton," not to mention his secured place as a cultural icon. This film shows that despite his nearly overnight rise from Nobody to Known, it was within this brotherhood a decade before that he built the chops and confidence to create what would become a global phenomenon. And the man "hasn't forgotten his roots." The real thrill comes in the introduction of the rest of the group which includes both Broadway stars and equally talented "everymen" that years ago chose a different path but never lost their connection to the art form nor their now uber rich & famous friends. It's refreshing to see how refreshed these guys are just by being around each other and reminding each other (and themselves) what it was like to CREATE and how that feeling drove them to go on to build businesses, to make families, to write shows. This documentary has enough juice for the casual onlooker, the hip-hop connoisseur, the improv nerd, the Broadway geek and everywhere in between. WATCH IT. See more Read all reviews
