Sixty years after fleeing Vienna, Maria Altmann, an elderly Jewish woman, attempts to reclaim family possessions that were seized by the Nazis. Among them is a famous portrait of Maria's beloved Aunt Adele: Gustave Klimt's "Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I." With the help of young lawyer Randy Schoenberg, Maria embarks upon a lengthy legal battle to recover this painting and several others, but it will not be easy, for Austria considers them national treasures.

It won't do the film any harm at the box office that Helen Mirren twinkles indomitably. She's as good as ever, but really - of all the things you want to see Dame Helen doing indomitably, twinkling isn't among them.

Frankly, this is all too easy and too simple for Helen Mirren and company. Despite attempts at provoking family and ancestral themes, the drama is rarely substantial enough to stir the audience.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. Helen Mirren was superb as always. I couldn’t fault the performances of the rest of the cast. The story kept me gripped to see if she got the paintings back.

The critics are wrong for giving it a bad rating. I loved it! Suspenseful, dramatic, great acting, great touching story. I would watch it again.

A great story that deserved the film treatment, but a film that was bland, and wasted the talents of two great actors who could have done the story more justice. No real surprises are to be found in this movie, but at least there's some great emotional moments from Reynolds and Mirren.
