Even if Krzysztof Krauze’s Dług (The Debt, 1999) still remains the quintessential Polish drama on the topic of debt traps, Woman on the Roof finds it trump card in Pomykała’s outstanding delivery in the role of a lifetime

Sometimes, we find something to grasp onto and manage to reshape our despair. This quietly amazing film, with cinematographer Ita Zbroniec-Zajt’s ability to use a palette of whites in the most expressive manner, is one of the better offerings of the year.
