Clever, chaotic TV writer Saoirse, glamorous, stressed-out mother of three Robyn, and dependable, inhibited carer Dara have been a tight-knit group since school. Now in their late 30s, but still as close as ever, these three friends are about to embark on the most thrilling adventure of their lives. When an email arrives, telling them about the death of the estranged fourth member of their childhood gang, a series of eerie events at her wake set them on a dark, dangerous and hilarious odyssey through Ireland and beyond as each tries to piece together the truth of the past. A show about friendship, memory and what happens when life doesn’t turn out quite like you'd expected.

Critics Consensus

Stretching its tone in different directions without ever snapping, How to Get to Heaven from Belfast is another triumphantly funny and proudly Irish series from creator Lisa McGee.

All three of these main characters are just wonderful inventions. They're so funny, and they're all unique. And they're all strange in different ways that I very much enjoyed discovering. Go to Full Review

From Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee comes an Irish tale powered by women and full of mirth and menace. It’s the kind of Netflix surprise we all need right now. Go to Full Review

While the storytelling occasionally drags and leans into a somewhat formulaic structure, the quick wit, dry humour and richly drawn characters make it a highly watchable binge. Go to Full Review

It's hilarious, haunting, and heavenly in every way. Go to Full Review

There is a bit of a slow pacing, and the narrative is very pretzel-like and opaque for basically the first five episodes. But if you stick with it, it definitely pays off. Go to Full Review

IIGIBB0II T 2h As a British bloke, this is bloody awful See more Stephen C @bob25009 21h 8 funny British English episodes on Netflix. See more E F @Pashie 2d From the writer/creator of Derry Girls was all I needed to know to watch this series and it doesn’t disappoint. This series is funny, campy and all of the characters are unique, creative and likable. Imagine the grown-up girls of Derry solving a murderer mystery. See more Clay T @Clay_MovieGoer 2d Loved every minute of it. Loved Derry Girls and I like this too. Yeah some parts were a wee bit random, and it's quite the edgier departure from the more whimsical Derry Girls, but I would love to see a season two, even though there should be no reason for one. Story was dark, but that goes to show just how much range Lisa McGee have in creating captivating stories. Worth a watch! See more Philip 3 @P_MCM 2d When I first heard of the show it was similar to Derry Girls. Then I started watching it. The comedy aspects definitely hit me in a few way, making me laugh out loud. Then the show"s tone turned more darker, and I love the approach they took. The pacing is good, The humour is good, the emotional and honesty quite dark stuff hits hard and feels real. I found myself seated at all times and I was genuinely so invested in the story. Major spoilers!!!!! The only hiccup I really have for the show is that they kill off the Society a bit too quickly, not only that, but I found Broker's motivation to turn against the organisation a bit random, despite having a good reason to. Second last episode they're introduced, next episode they're all dead, the last episode. Aside from that I strongly recommend this show to anyone who's a fan of dark comedy and/or crime thrillers. Verdict: 4.5/5 I would give it 5 stars, but I can't just give everything a 10/10 See more Andrei D 3d Cannot settle on a tonal approach and fails to extract all it can from its solid cast, but has impeccable music drops and some great moments See more Read all reviews
