It’s an unflinching look at a time on television when young women were taught their entire value was directly tied to their looks. But what’s most unsettling about the new doc isn’t just what happened onscreen, it’s how normal it all seemed at the time. Go to Full Review

Justly or not, it’s tough to emerge on the other side of “Reality Check” without harboring the impression that the “Top Model” creator deserves a seat on a nitro-boosted express train to the hot place. Go to Full Review

For a show about beauty, Top Model was always ugly -- but Reality Check’s conclusions are only skin deep. Go to Full Review

Fat-shaming, sexual harassment, making models pose as murder victims, or other ethnicities, or as if they have bulimia, or as if they’re homeless – ANTM really went there. Looking back with an adult mind, via a 2020s lens, makes your jaw drop. Go to Full Review

With Banks having sold the fairytale of overnight fame in the fashion industry with ANTM, the film leaves it to the viewer to decide whether the biggest lies of all are the ones she is telling herself. Go to Full Review

This documentary could have been a reckoning. It could have modeled what accountability looks like when someone with power admits, without qualification, "We hurt people." Instead, it feels like a PR recalibration. Go to Full Review

Angela R. @Violis25 4d Hearing Tyra SCREAM at the poor model was heartbreaking. Good “behind the scenes “ documentary but it was like watching the one about “The Biggest Loser “ because both made me feel so duped. See more JG T @MovieFann44 5d Tyra is full of it. Any apology she appears to have is so phony. It is as shocking to see how unhealthy these girls looked. The humiliation they were all put through was disturbing. See more Donn A Feb 24 nothing new and interesting See more Michael D @MichaelX Feb 24 This three-part docuseries about the reality show "America’s Next Top Model" would have been more effective as a tight 90-minute film; its bloat exposes pacing issues and an uneven tone, despite remarkable access to key players. What emerges though is a fetid time capsule of a cultural moment that feels, thankfully, far behind us. Tyra Banks, the show’s architect, comes off poorly, denying and deflecting criticism and refusing to reckon with the damage done, insisting they simply gave audiences what they wanted. (An echo of Jerry Springer in another era.) To their credit, many participants now acknowledge how abhorrent those "challenges" were: blackface, whiteface, and body-shaming pressures that pushed vulnerable young women to the brink. And that’s before confronting the filmed sexual assault that somehow made it to air. Uncomfortable, often queasy viewing, but fascinating in what it reveals about the culture that created it. See more Claudia D @Clauds Feb 23 Tyra is a narcissist, she is shallow and unapologetic ! I found producers of the show went really soft on her. No accountability whatsoever. Always pointing the finger at someone else when something went wrong in the show. I’m sorry for the girls that went through this.. and then struggled even more when the show finished. See more Lori F @LFalgoo Feb 22 There’s no excuse for how Tyra Banks and judges, Nigel Barker, Miss J Alexander and Jay Manuel, collectively and continually manipulated, humiliated, and bullied beautiful, young girls through the "cycles" of ANTM. At its helm, Banks the chief villain, wreaks insincerity and offers no real apologies for her abhorrent behavior. Instead, she plays the blame game throughout her interview, never showing remorse or regret for the wake of devastation she and producer, Ken Mok, generated. (Mok at least does admit to making a few "mistakes" in hindsight.) Used and victimized, the handful of girls featured in the documentary, finally have a voice here. I wanted to see more of them.
